Scrapin' Bag

I made these 12x12 squares from my collection of selvages last summer,

 but haven't been able to decide what to do with them. 

 Then I had an ah-ha moment.

I was trying to think of something pretty and unique to make for an upcoming special day for somebody and I thought to myself, "self, why not make a cute bag out of those selvage squares."

So I did.

The whole bag is made of scraps of fabric.

I used flannel from thrifted sheets to sew the selvages to and then a piece of interfacing that my neighbor gave me that was going to get thrown out to add a little extra stiffness to the bag.

I used the rest of the pillowcase from the 2 pillowcase dresses that I made on my previous post for the drawstring part of the bag.

The flower is my first attempt at making a fabric rose.  I used a yo-yo from my stash of yo-yo's to put behind the rose for a little extra pop of color and I also added a pin backing so the flower can be removed.

 special that I'm giving it to likes it as much as I do! 

Something Old, Something .......

I participated in Linda's Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue Swap and Stephanie was my partner. I am so far behind in posting this, sorry Stephanie, my pictures turned out really bad!

Stephanie sent me a bag with some old sewing pins in it, some pretty cards, clips and yo-yo's, a pretty vintage hankie that she made into a sachet and it was put in a pink box with a daisy on it, some postcards with some pretty blue flowers, a necklace with a "S" on it and a neat wedding photo. Thank you so much Stephanie for everything you sent! I love the sachet and it goes perfect with my hankies collection!

I made her a Tussie out of a vintage hankie and my sister, Robyn, let me "borrow" the roses and the rose petals that are in the other bag. Thanks Robby!

I used the wedding images to make cards that can be used for weddings or anniversarys and included some little inserts and confetti. I made a couple of other things, but my camera is only working when it wants to. Stephanie has some gorgeous pictures on her blog, so make sure you go check them out and say hi to her!

Well, Mallory's 9th Birthday party went well and she had so much fun! She had my 3 grand daughters spend the night so we're still kind of in party mode this morning.

This is the dress I made for Mallory to wear at the party. It has 3 tiers of ruffles and looks so cute on her.

That is to cover up a snip I accidently made while snipping a thread.

Yo-yo's make great band-aids for dresses!!

The kids colored the fish to hang in the net.

Vintage Circus Swap

Last month I was in Priscila's Vintage Circus Swap and my partner was Deborah. I was late, as usual, so I'm late posting this too. Deborah sent me this super cute vintage Curious George lunchbox, a vintage noise maker, vintage clowns, some vintage playing cards, buttons, vintage valentines, tickets and a really neat cigar box that she made with a circus scene in it. Oh, and a nice chocolate bar that I've still managed to keep away from the kids........and myself.

I've been wanting some Vintage Valentines for a long time after seeing all the neat ones that Lindsey from Two Crazy Crafters has. Yay!! I have a start on a new collection now!

This is the outside of the cigar box. I love the old scene and the red checkers add a really nice touch!

Here's the inside of the cigar box. Isn't it neat?? Deborah did a great job! I love the flying trapeze scene and the little vintage clowns are so cute!

Here's some of the things that I made for Deborah. I'd never worked with the gathered crepe paper before. It was easier than I thought and I think I'm addicted now. The little dog scene is from some napkins that I had.

I printed these circus scenes on to some muslin and then did a little beading on them and stitched a backing and hanger on to each one

Here's everything together. Part of the reason I was late on sending out the package was because when I made the "Circus" banner I goofed and made it say "Sucric". I got frustrated and had to let it sit for a few days. It looked really nice when it was spelled right!

Earl got into helping me with this swap. He bought the Circus Peanuts and the popcorn boxes for me. He also had the idea of putting the ruffled crepe paper into snow cone wrappers. He won't admit it, but he's getting a creative side. The little yo-yo clown I found when we moved. I made some of these up about 20 years ago and had them tucked away. I guess they are Vintage by now! Man, that doesn't even sound right! I'm getting old!

Yo-Yo's and Pom-Pom's

I've been making yo-yo's and then I got this idea off of Queenly Thing's Blog the other day, who had gotten it off of Molly Chicken's Blog, to make fabric scraps Pom-Pom's. I think it turned out so cute!! I can't wait to make more!

I like the word yo-yo and actually pom-pom is pretty cute too! My sister, Cathy, teaches English as a Second Language in the evenings to adults. She said her students were asking her about yo-yo's the other day. Cathy said they'd say the word yo-yo and laugh, that just saying the word brought a smile to their faces. So, I guess I'm not so crazy after all!! Right??

This is what I sent to Melinda

A bag I made out of Amy Butler fabric. I have a piece of quilted fabric between the outside layer and the lining. I also sent her some fabric squares, notecards, I made her two cards with vintage summer theme on them and some tags I made.

Now for everyone else to get their packages!! I always get so nervous!

I made some more yo-yo's yesterday. I'm not done with my Monday Challenge yet, but will be soon. Today I need to clean house, crochet a project, finish my challenge, work on a couple of swap things and I'd like to make some more yo-yo's. Oh, and we have a ball game tonight. Sounds like an exciting day, huh?

Lisa has a Monday challenge on her site appropriately called, "Make it Monday's". Every week she picks a theme and you are suppose to make anything you want using that theme. Today's theme is "Time Flies".

I've decided to try to do Lisa's challenge every week. We'll see how I do with that, but I'm going to try. So check out her site and enjoy!

I made some yo-yo's over the weekend. Yo-yo is a cool word, don't you think? I became fascinated over the weekend with this word while I was on A Very Mary Design's blog leaving a comment to win some fabric scraps. I was really tired and you had to think of what you would do with the scraps and who ever had the best idea won. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I thought of yo-yo's. Yo-yo, Yo-Yooo dude, Yo, hey yo, yo-yo. Oh well, I think it's a funny word. Sometimes I just get a little goofy, especially when I'm tired! It did inspire me to make some Yo-yo's though. Yo-yo!
