Beautiful Things for Me!

On Saturday Earl & Jace picked me some lilacs off the bush in the backyard. They smelled so good! I put them by the window and the breeze blew the scent right over to me.

For Mother's Day Earl surprised me with this beautiful rose he made out of cornbread. Isn't this the prettiest thing! I was so impressed!

Lexie and Jake really surprised me with this beautiful angel for my front flower garden. She is so pretty! Earl bought me some petunias and pansies to plant in the front. Slowly my flower garden is getting to be so pretty!

Ezie's teacher had enough babies on her spider plant to let all of the kids plant one for their moms. Isn't that sweet! I've never seen a such a tiny spider plant in a pot before.

Mallory made me a beautiful "Mom" sign and her teacher printed off certificates for us. Mallory surprised with a rose that she got at mass.

and then the day was done!
Thanks for a wonderful Mother's Day guys!!!
SSSssssshhhhhh!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Mother's Day too!!!

An Amazing Lady Who I Call Mom

My mom, JoVeta Ruth Wescott, is an amazing woman! Mom has accomplished so much in her life and has influenced her 6 kids lives as well. Mom is a nurturer, a nurse, a crafter, a counselor, she was a taxi driver for many years, a Scout leader, a student, a dream maker as my son Jeremy calls her, a chef (her fried chicken was better than Colonel Sanders!), and about anything else you can think of! Here's a few photo's I'd like to share of my memories of my mom.
My mom graduated from Nursing School while being married and having at least 2 of us kids.

We always went to mass on Sunday's and us girls never went an Easter without a new handmade Easter dress.
Mom and I took Stretch-n-Sew class together and she helped me make my prom dress for my Junior prom. The dress was a swimsuit pattern that we converted into a dress pattern.

Our house that mom made into a home

Mom made the dresses for my sisters to where in my wedding.

My mom is has been very successful in her nursing carrer. She is an RN and has a Masters Degree.

Mom made every holiday so special. There was always a huge dinner that mom spent days making and gifts out the whazoo. All 6 of us kids, our spouses, grandkids and their spouses and great grandkids have a handmade stocking.

When mom came to New York to visit us one summer we had so much fun! She took us to the Statue of Liberty and other places around New York.

When I had Jace my mom came to help me. She was always right there when I had a baby and helped take care of the other kids as well.

This is my mom last Christmas wearing the apron I made for her.
Thanks Mom for being such a great role model and mom to us kids.
Thanks for all the times you were there for me and my kids.
Thanks for just being you!
Oh yeah, if any of my siblings read this

Those Wonderful Woman From Whom I Came

My Grandma, Lucile Thompson Wescott, was a simple woman. Grandma gave me so many wonderful memories. She taught me to crochet and along with my mom, taught me to sew. Grandma did the plastic canvas work and she used to make those ever so popular grapes in the 1970's and clackers for us kids. On holidays Grandma usually felt like she wasn't giving us enough, but in reality I always loved what she gave me and treasure those wonderful homemade gifts. The simplicity of Grandma is something that I have come to appreciate very much.

Her Mom, my Granny, was Mildred Bluethman Thompson. Granny was a strong yet loving lady. She made me a pink and white patchwork quilt when I was little. When I went to visit her in Kansas City she taught me how to tie white clover heads together and make necklaces. Granny did quilting and embroidery work. I was blessed to have had my Granny until I was 20 years old or so.

On the other side of the family there is my Nana, Virginia Russell Ruth Shawver. My Nana is still alive at 88 years of age. Nana did a lot of crafty things. She crocheted, sewed and did a variety of other crafts. Her second husband would make some of the most beautiful Southwestern furnisher and then Nana would do paintings on them. I wish I had a picture to show you. It is some of the most beautiful furnisher I have ever seen! She always had a cluttered, but very neat house. (I have the clutter, but somehow lost the neat part!) Nana also gave me some wonderful memories and I enjoy getting letters from her now with a recipe or joke stuck in side the envelope too.

These are the women from whom I came. They were the inspiration in my life and definitely where my love of crafts came from. Thanks for all of the wonderful memories ladies!! I couldn't have asked for better roots.

My Favorite Cartoon Moms

Mother's Day is quickly approaching and I got to thinking about some of my favorite cartoon moms. Since I have pretty much always had a little one at home I am used to watching preschool shows and I really don't mind them at all!

My very favorite cartoon mom is, Miss Spider from Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends. I think that Miss Spider is such a great mom. She is loving, caring, and wise. Miss Spider always teaches her children wonderful lessons and will admit when she makes a mistake. She can be strict yet adventurous too. Miss Spider is definitely my favorite cartoon mom and I actually have learned a lot from her over the years!

I also like Little Bears mom. She is kind, loving and very wise. When Mother Bear is busy she still takes the time to enjoy little bear. I really like Mother Bear too!

Bill Cosby's show Little Bill features another great mom. Mom works and she still finds time to be there when Little Bill needs her. She is strict, but can enforce her rules in a fun way to make sure that Little Bill knows she is only doing what is best for him because she loves him.

All of these cartoon Mom's have wonderful families, not only are the mom's great, but so are the Dads. Thanks Noggin for airing such wonderful families for our youngsters to learn from (and us mom's)!!!

One question though, where is Max & Ruby's mom????

Have a great day everyone!

Who is your favorite cartoon mom?

One of My Most Memorable Mother's Day Presents

My older 3 boys bought me this card for Mother's day, gosh, I'd say like 20 years ago. I should have put a date on it. There is a sweet story behind this card and one that I will cherish forever.

My ex-husband was terrible about remembering Mother's Day, my birthday, Valentines Day, actually, he pretty much forgot any "day" that was suppose to be special for me. He had excuses like the classic, "Your not my mother" or "I forgot" or "the kids should have got you something, you're their mom". As he got better he would hand me a card while we were in the store and say "read this". I would read it and then he would say something like, "now you've read the card that I would have bought you for Mother's Day, so now I don't have to buy it". Anyway, it honestly was not the getting of a gift or a card that upset me so much, it was the fact that he wouldn't take the time to think of me. I spent many Mother's Days, birthdays and Valentines Days crying non stop. (I used to be one of those people that once I start crying I will go on and on all day long) My boys always felt bad, but it wasn't there fault.

Okay, finally to the sweet part. When my boys were probably 8, 9 and 11, give or take a year or two, they bought me this card with their "own money" and not only did they give me this beautiful card, but they told me this was the house they would buy for me someday. (I have always dreamed of having a house like this with a big porch) I have had this card in my china cabinet for around 20 years now and it is as special to me now as it was then. Even if my ex didn't get the point of Mother's Day at 30 years old I knew my boys did by the time they were 10. It isn't the gift that matters, it's the love and the thoughtfulness that my boys put into buying this card for me. It's the fact that they thought of me and told me how much they loved me. That is all I ever wanted.

So 20 years later, my ex always takes his new wife, of which he has no children with, out for a Mother's Day steak dinner and buys her an expensive gift. I don't know, maybe he's grateful she couldn't have any of his kids and that's why he goes all out on her. Maybe he grew up? Yeah, actually he has grown up a lot. My boys, as far as I know, for the most part are thoughtful to their wives and girlfriends and my daughter and her boyfriend are thoughtful with each other too. You know, the funny thing about my kids is if you ask them if they won the lottery or came into a huge amount of money what they would do with the money, the (the five older kids) first thing they say is "buy a house for momma" and then they list all their own personal items. I thank God for blessing me with 8 wonderful children. I love all of you, Jeremy, Chad, Jesse, Daniel, Alexis, Ezie, Mallory and Jace.

My DIL made this up using the pictures of my 5 oldest boys. So funny!
