08/08/08 Postcard Swap

I was in the 080808 Postcard Swap. We each had to make 8 postcards and mail them to 8 different people and then we should each get 8 different postcards back. They were all suppose to be postmarked 08/08/08. Mine actually made it to the post office about 10 minutes before they closed. I can't believe it! I was actually on time for once!! Anyway here's my postcards. I have never made a postcard before and I wasn't sure how much embellishing I could do so I just stuck with something simple and machine stitched the background paper to an index card and then machine stitched the cupcakes on top of that.

I also mailed one to Mallory since her birthday was on 08/08/08 and to myself for my scrapbook. Mallory mailed one to someone special to her too. So I hope I didn't break the good luck of the 080808 by mailing 11 cards out!!

The 2008 Olympics - One World One Dream

Did anyone else watch all or part of the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics tonight? I just watched the last 30 minutes or so and I was totally amazed! The fireworks and the lighting up of the cauldron were so magnificent!

Everyone else has probably already heard this story, but I am in a mainly PBS, Noggin, Disney Channel household and don't get to watch much news, so this story is new to me. The story of little Lin Hao. "Lin is a second-grader at the Yuzixi Primary School in Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County. Wenchuan was the epicenter of a devastating 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12 that killed over 69,000 people."

The story goes something like when the earthquake happened Lin Hao was in his classroom with 30 other students. He kept the other children that survived singing song until rescuers could find them. He also helped 2 classmates to escape the rubble even though he was injured himself. When he was asked why he went back in after the other children he said something about it was his responsibility because he was the hall monitor that day. What a hero! How many adults would do the same thing as this little boy did? I think that Lin Hao is truly an inspiration to all of us and shows the world that we should all be so brave and giving of ourselves.
