I've Become a Human Roto-Tiller!

I know that it's late in the season to be doing this, but I'm giving it a shot anyway. Earl's tiller broke and he hasn't been able to fix it. We both really wanted a garden this year since we have actually have a place to put one so I decided to till the ground myself. Here is a spot I did for the strawberry and basil plants that Earl's had sitting in the bed of his truck for almost 2 months now. I think they are much happier now! This weekend we're going to go down to the nursery and see if they have any veggie plants left and hopefully since it's so late in the season they'll be on clearance!

Here is another spot I'm working on towards the front of the house. There was some sort of bush here that I didn't like so Earl chopped it down for me and I'm digging up a bigger flower bed for next year. I want to spread my lilacs out come fall. I also replaced the ugly bush with a raspberry and lilac bush. My plan is to dig all the way down. I'm going to have Earl cut down the other bush that you see way down there.

All of the clumps you see on the side are waiting to dry out a little so I can shake all of the good soil off of the grass and weed roots. We aren't suppose to have any rain today or tomorrow so that is probably what I'm going to be doing. I'm having fun digging and can't wait to get some planting done. The kids are going to make me some concrete garden stones so we can have something to help decorate the area for now. I'm so excited and I figure this is a good way to get some exercise in!

I am so impressed with your sidebar account of your weight loss progress. And yes, working like you are is for sure exercise. I have 4 grandbabies today so not much exercise just busy work. You are doing a lot better than me. Keep up the good work. You are inspiring me!

Sorry about the tiller breaking. We have one and it's so helpful. I remember my grandmom digging up gardens in her 70s!
Strawberries are rather invasion, so you may want to put some slate or something between it and the basil. I just used fresh basil in the spaghetti sauce tonight-yum!
Glad you are getting your thumb greened up!
Oh-good luck with the sales. The Wally World is isn't dropping prices at all. I got some gorgeous coleus for $2.00 (some of my favorite plants) tonight.
